To manufacture them, the seasoned trunk of a beech sawn into thin strips (from 0.5 cm to 2 cm) was used, it depended on the intended use of it. The strip was folded into a circle. On the bottom was fixed a sheet or perforated net. They were used, in the farmyard, tied to a plant – think of an overturned umbrella with many small holes – for the tanning of cereals or to remove the seeds of the weeds from the good ones.
